TOUR SUMMARY

This day trip will take you to Szentendre, a real pearl of Baroque architecture. The town is very popular among local artists who settled here to work and create, only 22 kilometres north of Budapest.

This town in the Danube bend, first inhabited by the Romans then by Hungarians and almost completely abandoned during the Ottoman occupation period, came to life again when fleeing Serbian settlers arrived in the late 17th century. Today Szentendre is a charming town with cobblestone streets, art galleries, tiny museums, cafés and great shops offering different types of handicrafts.

First, we will hop on the “HÉV” the suburban railway and take a 40 minutes to ride to the town of Szentendre. This charming settlement is also popular among locals who want to take a short excursion to relax and get away from the bustling capital.

Once arrived, we will discover the main square and the surrounding small hidden streets. Bring your comfortable walking shoes because we will take a few steps up for a breathtaking view over the Danube bend.

We will then take the time to go and see one the still functioning Serbian Orthodox churches of Szentendre.

An unmissable part of our journey is a visit to Margit Kovács Ceramics Museum. The innovator of Hungarian ceramic art left behind an extremely rich oeuvre, her art radiates intimate human focus through her main themes of folk myths, tales and legends.

We will take a break, sit and relax in one of the best coffee shops of Szentendre, to sip a cup of coffee accompanied by a delicious piece of traditional Hungarian cake. Just immerse yourself into the people watch while enjoying your coffee.
