TOUR SUMMARY
We start our tour at Rákóczi Square Market Hall with the history of the neighbourhood and the reasons why we love this controversial and unique district. We will taste the city’s best Langos, a traditional Hungarian street food.
While walking through the hauntingly beautiful streets and squares of the neighbourhood and admiring the crumbling facades you will see and understand how old and new co-exists side by side. You will visit the oldest Baroque church of the city, see late 20th century panel housing, hear stories about the gipsy musicians and see the memorial dedicated to them.
Before entering to the modern part of the district we will have a drink in a café run by a non-profit organisation (Nem Adom Fel), employing disabled people.
The prefabricated panel housing gives a good example of the 70’s and 80’s city planning and gives you a glimpse to the stormy history of the second half the last century. You will finish the tour in a small cool local bar with a drink in the hand among some locals around.
By choosing this tour, you give back to local communities and support two organisations: Oltalom Charity Society focuses on helping the homeless, elderly, children in danger and refugees by providing shelter, health services, food and clothing for those in need.
Nem Adom Fel association runs two cafés where they employ people with disabilities and raise awareness bout their situation.
A proportion of the income generated by this very tour helps the work of this two organisations.
